“you basically pick a destination you want to go in europe out of the following list (Manchester, London, Paris, Barcelona, Zurich, Milan, Rome, Munich, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Amsterdam, Copenhagen). then add a segment of Manchester to Houston (find your own way to Manchester but internal europe flights are pretty cheap)New York to Frankfurt (or vice versa). then for final flight choose one of the following cities in United States back to Australia (Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston*, New York**) once again you will need transport between Houston and whatever city you choose

the price generally comes out between $2000 and 2500 even in times where booking the transatlantic flight seperately would be $1500 on its own.”

i was having a look for some flights at the end of the year and remembered this deal, thought it might be worth reposting

Do note that the Manchester to Houston flight is ending April 2025 according to https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/fifth-freedom-rou…

I can’t seem to find any cheap flights around that time anyway.

The cheapest prices I see are in October – November.

Importantly, you can add a stopover in Singapore & Tokyo to make it even better (albeit a bit more expensive)
Returning from New York instead of elsewhere in USA e.g. west coast makes it more expensive

Here’s a few examples of itineraries:

PER to MXP 20th October
FRA to JFK 6th November
LAX to PER 20th November
= $1795 at BYOjet and Aunt Betty (not particularly nice websites to book from, but Aunt Betty is owned by flight centre)

change above to SYD causes price to +$67

change above to include Singapore stopover 3 days causes price to +$62

change above to include Tokyo stopover 7 days (add LA to Tokyo freedom flight)
= +$142

Dec/Jan example:

PER to LHR 1st Dec
FRA to JFK 15th Dec
LAX to NRT 5th Jan
NRT to PER 14th Jan

= $2506 (Aunt Betty & BYOjet again)

last year it was way more expensive on Singapore airlines website iirc, so booking via OTAs is probably the dealbreaker for many
