This Super Premium McLaren Vale Shiraz 2022 is an exceptional wine that embodies the rich, bold character for which McLaren Vale is renowned. This limited-release Shiraz is sourced from the region’s finest vineyards, where the maritime influence and diverse soils create a unique terroir that imparts complexity and depth to the fruit. The 2022 vintage was marked by a long, cool growing season that allowed for slow, even ripening, resulting in grapes with excellent balance and concentrated flavours.
In the winery, meticulous winemaking techniques are employed to capture the essence of the terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo a careful sorting process to ensure only the highest quality fruit is used. Fermentation takes place in small open-top fermenters, with regular punch-downs to extract maximum colour, flavour, and tannin. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, with a portion of new oak to enhance the wine’s structure and add layers of complexity.
The 2022 Super Premium McLaren Vale Shiraz showcases a deep, inky purple color with aromas of dark plum, blackberries, and cassis, accented by subtle hints of mocha, spice, and freshly cracked pepper. The palate is full-bodied and opulent, displaying intense flavours of ripe black fruit, dark chocolate, and licourice, supported by finely integrated tannins and a touch of smoky oak. The wine’s vibrant acidity provides lift and balance, leading to a long, velvety finish that lingers with notes of spice and vanilla.
This Shiraz is crafted to be enjoyed now or cellared for further development, as its structure and concentration promise graceful aging over the next decade or more.
