2022 Chalk Hill Alpha Crucis Southern Cross Shiraz $240/Dozen Delivered @ Skye Cellars (Membership Required)

Chalk Hill is a good winery and you can buy the wines from the winery. It’s not a random winery that advertises heavily inflated RRP and a gigantic discount, although I would personally say that their wines tend to be a bit overpriced. Lovely winery with amazing views.

Alpha Crucis is a line of wines made by Chalk hill. They are supposedly the best of the Chalk Hill wines, but there are some pretty good Chalk Hill branded wines too. Southern Cross is one of their top shiraz. I have been to the winery and bought a previous vintage bottle a few years ago for $90.

Skye was doing a free membership a while ago. No idea of the current status of the membership. Membership also includes free delivery.

Is this wine worth $100? Personally I wouldn’t say so.
Is $20 a bargain? Absolutely.

My own opinion is as follows:
It’s a good expression of a Mclaren Vale shiraz. It’s more of a mid bodied shiraz that is drinkable now or in the next few years, but I won’t be aiming to keep it 10yrs. I’ve ordered a dozen myself and will be happy with it. I am a bit annoyed at paying $90 for a bottle from the winery!

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
